ROXIE + MICHAEL | Cosmic Mayan Destination Wedding | Tulum, Mexico

Roxie + Michael had the most incredible and unique ceremony I've ever seen. Officiated by two Shamans and incorporating everyone in attendance with drums, flower petals, emotional words of inspiration, there was copal, saluting of the cardinal directions and elements, and it culminated in the everyone offering their positive energy and throwing the flowers that made up the altar into the sea. Minutes later, a dramatic tropical storm rolled in and the downpour rushed us all under the palapa.

From the Bride:

The wedding theme was inspired by the Cosmic/Magical/Vibrant/Effervescent - We wanted the magic and beauty of Tulum to set the stage for our Cosmic ceremony in a truly organic way. We loved how the natural elements and colors of the jungle (the deep greens and rustic wood grains) melt into the dazzling blues of the Caribbean. With that said, we sourced some of the native bougainvilleas for a pop of color and called it a day. The coming together of our amazing families and friends for the first time created a magic that we will feel for the rest of our lives.

Inspiration: Where the jungle meets the sea, the magic of Tulum, native flora & fauna, the beauty and colors of Mexico, Roxie's Mexican heritage

Special details: Our ceremony was incredible. It was unlike anything we (and all of our guests) had ever experienced. It was interactive, musical and full of so much love. Everyone had an instrument. Maracas for most, a drum that my brother led, and Charlie the Shaman with his amazing conch shell that he blew after each part of the ceremony. Different flowers that represented each cardinal direction were held by individual guests that showered us with the petals. We sat, we kneeled, we looked to the spirits up above, and offered ourselves with our friends and family as our witnesses to our forever.

Their Love Story: We met through a mutual friend 6.5 years ago. It was Summer and I remember my friend telling me that she had a "sassy" guy like me that she wanted me to meet. She told him that I was cute and funny. She and I were hanging out and she told him to stop by. Our first drink together was a shot of tequila and Tecate (maybe a foreshadowing of the tequila we would drink at our wedding?). It was an instant connection. I think we both agree that even though it was way too premature to say it at the time, we both knew we were each other's peoples from month 1. Love is crazy like that.
