French-inspired, laid-back, elegant wedding in Coastal Maine

Sometimes the rain plan works out better than the original. An overcast day forced Elisa + Mike to find an indoor location for their ceremony with just 24 hours notice, and what they ended up with was a perfect alternative in the Walpole Meeting House – A structure built in the early 20th century to house Town Hall meetings. Their officiant and longtime friend was perched high above them,  their friends gathered in groups in the untraditional seating. The mood was calm, joyous, and reverent for the union that was taking place. Filled with emotional moments, from Elisa’s dad singing to her a childhood favorite song, to the warming of the rings, to a call and response acoustic version of “This Must Be the Place” by the Talking Heads, every emotion was felt.

Their laid back, French-inspired reception at the Round Top Barn was just as intentional and moving. Hand-selected wine and wildflowers decorated the tables in that perfectly un-done French manner, fresh oysters were shucked on the spot, and there were yard games and lots of room to roam. Their first dance was to Edith’s Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose” but get this – it was an accordion recording Elisa’s grandfather made in France a few weeks before the wedding as he and her grandmother were unable to make the trip. His gift to her.

I say it a lot but think it even more often – I am truly so lucky to be a small part of people’s love story. Here’s a quote from Elisa about Mike she shared with me in their love story that just really strikes to the heart of why we do all this: “It’s been a whirlwind of bike rides and traveling and goofiness and good food with friends and family. Through it all, Mike has been the most consistent, committed partner, never wavering in his love for me or his expression of it.”

Dacia is by far the most talented wedding photographer and we couldn’t be more happy with her work – our photos are perfect and exactly what we were looking for. She’s able to capture the love and genuine emotion of the dynamics around her and you can tell she’s most interested in documenting human connection and interaction over anything else. Her shots are artistic and unique but remain simple, elegant, and timeless…she was meticulously organized the day of, which meant we got through a ton of shots extremely quickly (and so we had more time to enjoy the day!). We couldn’t recommend her more.
